The situation

The war in Syria continues on the 7th year with incomprehensible consequences. It is a humanitarian disaster and has triggered the largest flow of refugees in the World. The consequence of the war has spread to the surrounding countries that have received more than five million Syrian refugees since the war began in 2011.

While some refugees seek refuge in Europe, the vast majority of Syrian refugees are in the neighboring countries to Syria. Here they need assistance on a daily basis, access to health care, psychosocial assistance and more.

The situation is complicated by that the refugees in several host communities are perceive as the primary reason for the increase poverty in the area, resulting in tension between the two groups.

Turkey is hosting 3 million Syrian refugees and thus hosting the largest number of refugees worldwide.

Lebanonhosts nearly 1.1 million registered Syrian refugees and possibly hundreds of thousands of unregistered refugees. Thus, Lebanon is the country in the World hosting the largest number of refugees relative to its national population.

Jordan hosts 660.000 Syrian refugees, many of these live in large refugee camps.

Iraq hosts 235.000 Syrian refugees, while more than 3 million Iraqis are internally displaced in the country.

Egypt hosts 120.000 Syrian refugees, mainly in the metropolis of Cairo and Alexandria.
