URCS: Starting the BOCA process


On 23rd of July, 2 regional branches of the URCS, Kharkiv and Dnipropetrovsk, began the Branch Organizational Capacity Assessment (BOCA) process. Beginning with self-assessment, these two organizations have shown their interest in measuring and strengthening their own potential for effective assistance to those in need. BOCA is a self-assessment tool designed for branches of the Red Cross and Red Crescent National Societies to identify the current branch's potential and jointly develop directions for its further strengthening. In 25 countries of the world, the branches of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies have already carried out BOCA and having developed plans of action, have achieved remarkable results. To support and implement BOCA in the URCS, a team of 10 facilitators was trained in Kharkiv on July, 20-22. The training of facilitators and the pilot BOCA are being implemented within the framework of the "URCS Branch, Youth and Volunteer Development Project" (“BraVo”), implemented by the URCS with the support of the Danish Red Cross and the ICRC. International BOCA experts who visited Ukraine at the invitation of the IFRC.
